Hagia Sophia, “Church of Divine Wisdom” was built in 6th century by Roman Emperor Justinian. The most daring masterpiece of Romans was a challenge to the means of time with its gigantic dome and it became a Christian Icon for centuries. For 900 years, it was used as church untill Ottoman conquest, which was converted into a mosque by the order of Mehmet the Conqueror. Another 500 years , it kept its supreme place among the Ottoman Mosques. Finally, Ataturk, founding father of moder Turkish Republic turned Hagia Sophia into a museum in 1935. after completing restoration work, hidden roman mosaic were unveiled and now it is possible to see the interplay of christian and Muslim features, antique marble panels and columns.
