BYZANTINE HIPPODROME

Hippodrome, tlayover tours - hippodromehe heart of  Roman Constantinople, is located between Sultan Ahmet Mosque (Blue mosque) and Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum with three ancient columns and its rectangle shape. The oldest monuments of Hippodrome remarks the place where everything  of vital importance took place right there at the very center of old city; the chariot races, crowning ceremonies, religious disputes and even executions.

After have been chosen as the new capital of Roman Empire in 330 AD,  hippodrome was expanded immensely about 480 m long by 120 m wide and with a capacity of 100.000. It had gone through invasion of Latins of the fourth Crusades, Ottoman Conquest, eventually  three monuments survived up to today. Egyptian Obelisk, Serpentine Coloum and Column of Constantine.
